Why Ghana?

I don't really remember the exact moment, but when I was younger I decided that I wanted to go to Africa. I didn't know what country, but I knew that's the area of he world I wanted to go to. A few years later I had a Priest at my church from India. He supported an orphanage near his home town, and I decided I wanted to do the same thing. The only difference was that I wanted to go to Africa and help at an orphanage there. As high school and college approached I had decided that becoming a teacher was for sure what I wanted to do. The dream of helping children didn't change, but the way that I was going to go about it did. Being a teacher is how I was going to reach children on a long term basis. Africa is still the place I want to go teach, and now with this partnership in Ghana for student teaching abroad, my childhood dream has the potential to become a reality. A few weeks stand in the way between being accepted into the program.

Goals:
- Become comfortable with traveling on my own
- Become immersed in the culture I will be living in
- Teach with minimal materials and outside help
- Become better at classroom management
